El Informe Each year, All About Beer brings beer education to the masses in Columbia, South Carolina, with their World Beer Festival. The WBF doesn't proclaim to be an extreme beer event, so those seeking to try off-the-wall, cask-conditioned, barrel-aged sours should look elsewhere. WBF is about educating the public about greater beer by offering up samplings from breweries around the world. Every year features a lineup of breweries that range from the behemoths of brewing to local craft breweries, along with educational seminars that attempt to teach people about different aspects of beer, from the brewing process to style variations to showcasing the all-stars of the state's brewing scene who are helping to create fresh, local craft beer. Past seminars have included "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark," which taught attendees about the different styles of "dark" beer and what differentiates them, and a session dedicated to South Carolina breweries that played host to brewmasters and owners from several of the Palmetto State's breweries.
Columbia River Crossing analysis finds toll revenue sufficient to finance construction
Founded by Harry and Jack Cohn and Joe Brandt, the company churned out low-budget shorts, westerns and comedies. In fact, it was even jokingly referred to as "Corned Beef and Cabbage" because of its shoe-string productions. To add luster to its reputation, the name was changed to the more prestigious-sounding Columbia Pictures. And the studio continues to thrive under that name to this date as part of the Columbia Tri-Star Motion Picture Group at the old MGM studios in Culver City. But even with the name change 90 years ago, Columbia was still a "Poverty Row" studio at what is now the Sunset Gower Studios in Hollywood. Two-fisted President and Chief of Production Harry Cohn, who once said running a studio was "better than being a pimp," kept the budgets low. Sets and props were recycled.

Columbia Public Schools superintendent announces retirement
He has been an educator for 32 years, according to his biography on the Columbia Public Schools website. Belcher renewed his contract through 2015 in April. His salary for the 2013-2014 school year is $198,922. A contract does not preclude a person from retiring, said Michelle Baumstark, spokeswoman for the school district. When an employee can retire and the amount of pension they receive is dependent on years of service and the highest salary a person earned, Baumstark said. "He has been eligible to retire for several years," Baumstark said of Belcher.
